Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract, skin & skin structure, bone & joint, intra-abdominal infections; UTI, sepsis, meningitis; documented or suspected infection due to susceptible organism in home care patients at high risk for bacteremia, periorbital or buccal cellulitis, salmonellosis or shigellosis & pneumonia of unestablished etiology (<5 yr).
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV/IM Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g once daily, may be increased to 4 g once daily in severe cases. Childn up to 12 yr & infant 20-80 mg/kg. Neonate 20-50 mg/kg daily. Preterminal renal failure (CrCl <10 mL/min) Max: 2 g. Administration should be continued for a min of 48-72 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins; penicillins (possibility of allergic cross-reactions).
Special Precautions
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomatitis; eosinophilia, leukopenia, granulocytopenia; allergic dermatitis, pruritus, edema, urticaria.
