Vit C 600 mg, Fe fumarate (elemental Fe 115 mg) 350 mg, intrinsic factor conc 75 mg, vit E 60 mg, docusate Na 50 mg, folic acid 1 mg, vit B12 25 mcg
Indications/Uses
Hematinic in Fe-deficiency anemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken between meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to active ingredients & components eg, starch, opadry red & alcohol. Alcohol may contain allergens eg, yeasts which may cause allergic reactions. Patients taking mineral oil, w/ intestinal obstruction & acute abdominal pain.
Special Precautions
Not intended in the treatment of pernicious anemia & other megaloblastic anemias where vit B12 is deficient. Patients afflicted w/ pernicious anemia may not respond to orally administered vit B12 w/ intrinsic factor conc. Periodic exam & lab studies of pernicious anemia is recommended. Discontinue or temporarily stop if intolerance occur. Folic acid in doses >0.1 mg daily. Doses >10 mcg of cyanocobalamin (vit B12) in patients w/ folate deficiency; indiscriminate use may mask the precise diagnosis.
Adverse Reactions
GI intolerance; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain; skin rashes of various types. Allergic sensitization.
Drug Interactions
Docusate Na: Increased risk of cardiotoxicity w/ droperidol; QT prolongation w/ levomethadyl; hypokalemia w/ licorice. May cause inflammation of intestinal mucosa, liver, spleen & lymph nodes w/ mineral oil.
