Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 40 mg once daily, may be increased if necessary to a max of 80 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction. Renal impairment. Do not initiate during pregnancy & stop immediately when pregnancy is diagnosed. Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, & dose-related orthostatic hypotension. Hypotension particularly in patients w/ vol depletion (those who have received high-dose diuretics). Impaired renal function &, rarely, rash, urticaria, pruritus, angioedema, & raised liver enzyme values. Hyperkalemia, myalgia, & arthralgia. Resp tract disorders, back pain, GI disturbances, fatigue, & neutropenia. Rhabdomyolysis (rarely).
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensive effects may be potentiated by drugs or other agents that lower BP. Additive hyperkalaemic effect w/ K supplements, K-sparing diuretics, or other drugs that can cause hyperkalaemia. Risk of renal impairment may be increased w/ NSAIDs particularly in those who are inadequately hydrated. Hypotensive effect may be attenuated w/ NSAIDs. Interactions may occur w/ drugs that affect cytochrome P450 isoenzymes. May increase serum conc of digoxin.
