Indications/Uses
Treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men w/ enlarged prostate; to improve symptoms, reduce the risk of the need for surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate & prostatectomy; reduce the risk of symptomatic progression of BPH.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly 200 mcg/5 mg once daily. May be titrated up to 400 mcg/5 mg once daily. Mild to moderate hepatic & renal impairment 200 mcg/5 mg once daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take 30 min after a meal.
Contraindications
History of orthostatic hypotension or severe hepatic insufficiency.
Special Precautions
Evaluate for prostatic carcinoma prior to therapy. Careful evaluation of any sustained increase in PSA levels. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min). Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
Adverse Reactions
Ejaculation disorder. Tamsulosin: Dizziness. Occasionally, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions. Finasteride: Decreased libido & ejaculation vol, breast enlargement & tenderness, rash.
