Cytarabine
Indications/Uses
Gastric, cholecyst, biliary tract, pancreatic, colonic, rectal, pulmonary & ovarian cancer; hepatocarcinoma, mastocarcinoma, hysterocarcinoma in concomitant use w/ other anticancer agents. Induction of clinical remission &/or maintenance therapy in acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic & non-lymphoblastic leukemias, blast crisis of chronic myeloid leukemia & diffuse histiocytic lymphomas.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Remission induction IV inj Adult 0.8-1.6 mg/kg/day. Childn 0.6-2.3 mg/kg/day. To be given for 10 consecutive days. Continue up to 4 mg/kg/day until remission or toxicity occurs. IV infusion Initially 0.5-1 mg/kg/day. Continue up to 2 mg/kg/day until remission or toxicity occurs. Remission maintenance IM or SC inj 1 mg/kg every wk or half a wk. Digestive system cancer, hysterocarcinoma, ovarian cancer, mastocarcinoma IV infusion 0.2-0.8 mg/kg once or twice for 1 wk. Local continuous intra-arterial infusion 0.2-0.4 mg/kg/day in combination w/ other anticancer drugs.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Women of childbearing potential. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Renal & hepatic disorders, bone marrow suppression, complicated infections. Monitor hematologic, hepatic & renal functions. Manifestation of infection & bleeding tendency. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hemorrhage, anemia, megaloblastosis; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia; abdominal pain, ileus, stomatitis; rash; malaise, headache; urodynia, cystitis, hematuria; fever; interstitial pneumonia.
Drug Interactions
Other antineoplastic agents or radiotherapeutics may enhance bone marrow suppression effect of cytarabine. Concomitant use w/ other antineoplastic therapy may cause phlebitis, alopecia.
