Ceftriaxone Na 1 g, sulbactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms including sepsis; meningitis; abdominal infections (eg, peritonitis, infections of the biliary tract); bones, joints, soft tissue, skin & wound infections; renal & UTI; resp tract infections particularly pneumonia; ENT infections; uncomplicated gonorrhea. Pre-op prophylaxis for infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV Adult 1.5-3 g every 6 hr. Max: 4 g/day. Infant & childn (15 days to 12 yr) 20-80 mg/kg once daily. Neonate 20-50 mg/kg once daily for up to 14 days. Max: 50 mg/kg daily.
Contraindications
History of allergy to cephalosporins & penicillins.
Special Precautions
Superinfections w/ non-susceptible microorganism may occur. Pseudomembranous colitis. May precipitate Ca salt in the gallbladder if given at higher than standard doses. Pregnancy & lactation. May displace bilirubin from serum albumin. Neonates w/ hyperbilirubinemia.
Adverse Reactions
GI disorders eg, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomatitis & glossitis; SGOT/SGPT elevations; exanthema, allergic dermatitis, pruritus, urticaria, edema, erythema multiforme; headache, dizziness, increased serum creatinine, mycosis of genital tract; oliguria, fever, shivering; anaphylactic shock; pain, induration & tenderness on the administration site; inflammatory reactions in the vein after IV.
Drug Interactions
Antagonistic w/ chloramphenicol. False +ve direct Coombs' test result (eg, patients w/ azotemia); non-enzymatic urinary glucose estimation methods.
