Glimepiride
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 1 tab daily, may be increased to 2 tab for maintenance.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before the 1st main meal of the day.
Contraindications
IDDM, ketoacidosis, severe infection, stress, trauma & severe conditions unlikely to control hyperglycemia. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Monitor hepatic & hematological functions.
Adverse Reactions
Mild & dose-dependent GI disturbances (eg, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, anorexia, diarrhea & metallic taste); increased appetite & wt gain; skin rashes & pruritus; photosensitivity. Hypersensitivity reaction. Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Drug Interactions
Adrenaline (epinephrine), aminoglutethimide, chlorpromazine, corticosteroids, diazoxide, OCs, rifamycins & thiazide diuretics; ACE inhibitors, alcohol, allopurinol, some analgesics (azapropazone, phenylbutazone & salicylates), azole antifungals (fluconazole, ketoconazole & miconazole), chloramphenicol, cimetidine, clofibrate & related compd, coumarin anticoagulants, halofenate, heparin, MAOIs, octreotide, ranitidine, sulfinpyrazone, sulfonamides (including co-trimoxazole), tetracyclines, TCAs & thyroid hormones; β-blockers.
