Indications/Uses
Induction & maintenance of general anesth in adult & childn for inpatient & outpatient surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Induction: Individualized dosage. Adult & childn Inspired conc of up to 8% in <2 min w/ O2 or O2-nitrous oxide mixt. Maintenance: 0.5-3% w/ or w/o concomitant use of nitrous oxide.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other halogenated anesth. Known or suspected genetic susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia.
Special Precautions
Latent/overt neuromuscular disease particularly Duchenne muscular dystrophy. QT prolongation, ventricular arrhythmia (ped w/ Pompe's disease). Malignant hyperthermia & (rarely) seizure; patients w/ mitochondrial disorders. Maintain hemodynamic stability in CAD patients; dessicated CO2 absorbents; renal impairment; risk for ICP elevations. May increase potential for hepatic injury. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & infants. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dose-dependent cardioresp depression, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, (ped) agitation & cough, (elderly) bradycardia.
Drug Interactions
Nitrous oxide, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (pancuronium, vecuronium or atracurium). May increase metabolism & activity of CYP450 eg, INH & alcohol.
