Sertraline HCl
Indications/Uses
Depression; obsessive compulsive, panic, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress & premenstrual dysphoric disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
50 mg daily in the morning or evening. May be increased to a max of 200 mg daily over a period of wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Do not use in combination w/ MAOIs or w/in 14 days of treatment discontinuation of either sertraline or MAOIs. May activate mania or hypomania; result to wt loss. Discontinue use if seizure develops. Closely supervise high risk patients for possible suicide attempt. Electroconvulsive therapy & unstable epilepsy. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Hepatic or renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, tremor, dizziness, insomnia, increased sweating, dry mouth & male sexual dysfunction.
Drug Interactions
Serious reactions in combination w/ MAOIs eg, hyperthermia, rigidity, myoclonic, autonomic instability w/ possible rapid fluctuations of vital signs, mental status changes including confusion, irritability & extreme agitation progressing to delirium & coma. Alcohol, diazepam, tolbutamide, cimetidine, warfarin.
