Indications/Uses
Prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants (including premature infants) & childn caused by the serotypes G1, G2, G3, G4 & G-serotypes containing P1A[8] (eg, G9).
Dosage/Direction for Use
The vaccination series consists of 3 ready-to-use liqd doses administered orally to infants. 1st dose is administered at 6-12 wk of age & the remaining doses at a min interval of 4 wk between each dose. Do not replace dose if infant spits or regurgitates vaccine, continue to give infant any remaining doses in the series.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Gently squeeze liqd into infant's mouth toward the inner cheek until dosing tube is empty.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Individual w/ severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID).
Special Precautions
Adequate treatment provisions, including epinephrine inj (1:1000) should be available for immediate use should an anaphylactic reaction occur. Administration to patients or their close contacts who are immunocompromised or w/ malignancies & those receiving immunosuppressive therapy; HIV infection. Individuals who have received a blood transfusion including Ig w/in 42 days. Infants w/ active GI illness, chronic diarrhea, growth retardation, history of congenital abdominal disorders or intussusception; acute infections or febrile illness. Pregnancy & lactation. Infants <6 wk.
Adverse Reactions
Vomiting, diarrhea, pyrexia; otitis media, bronchospasm; anaphylactic reaction, urticaria, angioedema. Gastroenteritis w/ vaccine viral shedding in infants w/ SCID. Intussusception or Kawasaki disease.
