Indications/Uses
Acute treatment of signs & symptoms of OA, RA & acute gouty arthritis. Management of acute pain associated w/ inflammation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA Usual dose of 30 mg once daily, increased to 60 mg once daily if necessary. RA 90 mg once daily. Gouty arthritis (acute symptomatic period) 120 mg once daily, max of 8 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients who have history of stroke: CVA; heart attack: MI; CABG; uncontrolled HTN; CHF (NYHA II-IV).
Special Precautions
Patients w/ hypersensitivity to NSAIDs & those w/ asthma. Patients w/ ischemic heart disease & those w/ risk factors for heart disease, HTN, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking & patient w/ peripheral arterial disease. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration of treatment. Discontinue if appearance of skin rash & signs of hypersensitivity occurs. Potential GI (gastric & liver) & renal toxicities. May affect the ability to drive & use machines. Not recommended in women attempting to conceive. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances eg, GI discomfort, nausea, & diarrhoea; headache, vertigo, dizziness, nervousness, tinnitus, depression, drowsiness, & insomnia; hypersensitivity reactions including fever; angioedema, bronchospasm, & rashes; hepatotoxicity & aseptic meningitis; anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, eosinophilia, & agranulocytosis; nephrotoxicity eg, interstitial nephritis & nephrotic syndrome; haematuria; fluid retention.
Drug Interactions
Decreased plasma conc w/ rifampicin. Increases plasma conc of ethinylestradiol.
