Cefepime HCl 1 g, sulbactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Acute biliary tract infections in adults. Pneumonia, complicated UTI (including pyelonephritis), complicated intra-abdominal infections, peritonitis associated w/ dialysis in patients on CAPD in adults & childn >12 yr w/ 40 kg body wt. Bacterial meningitis in childn 2 mth-12 yr w/ 40 kg body wt. Empirical treatment of adults, adolescent & childn 2 mth-12 yr w/ febrile neutropenia that is suspected to be due to bacterial infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV Administer bid-tid in equally divided doses. Max daily dose: 9 g.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cefepime, other cephalosporins or β-lactams. Patients w/ L-arginine hypersensitivity & acidosis.
Special Precautions
Previous hypersensitivity to cefepime, β-lactams or other medicinal products. Cross-reactivity between hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms may occur. History of asthma or allergic diathesis. Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea. Interference w/ serological testing (+ve Coombs test; false +ve reaction for glucose in Benedict's, Fehling's, Clinitest tab). Careful monitoring w/ coadministration of potential nephrotoxic drugs. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
+ve Coombs test. Prolonged prothrombin & partial thromboplastin time, anaemia, eosinophilia; infusion site phlebitis; diarrhea; increased ALT, AST, blood bilirubin; rash; infusion site reaction, inj site pain & inflammation; increased alkaline phosphatase.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ the action of β-lactams in concomitant treatment w/ bacteriostatic antibiotics.
