Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of moderate pain, particularly after surgery & of fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion Infuse for 15 min. Patient >50 kg 1 g as single dose every 4 or more hr. Max: 4 g/day, 33-50 kg 15 mg/kg as single dose every 4 or more hr. Max: 60 mg/kg or 3 g/day, whichever is less.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ alcohol dependence. Impaired kidney or liver function.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia & agranulocytosis. Skin rashes & other hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Increased paracetamol toxicity w/ other potentially hepatotoxic drugs or drugs that induce liver microsomal enzymes. Accelerated absorption w/ metoclopramide. May affect excretion & altered plasma conc w/ probenecid. Reduced absorption w/ colestyramine.
