Indications/Uses
Prevention & therapy of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection w/ limited protein food of ≤40 g/day (for adults), ie, generally in patients w/ GFR <25 mL/min.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole. Do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcemia. Disturbed amino acid metabolism. Patients w/ phenylketonuria.
Special Precautions
Regularly monitor serum Ca level. Contains phenylalanine. Phenylketonuria. Lactation.
Drug Interactions
May lead to pathological increase of serum Ca level or intensification w/ medicaments containing Ca (eg, acetolyte). Reduce possible administration of Al hydroxide as uraemic symptoms improve. Reduction of serum phosphate. Interfered absorption w/ drugs that form sparingly soluble compd w/ Ca (eg, tetracyclines, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin), Fe, fluoride, & estramustin-containing drugs). Susceptibility towards heart/cardio-active glycosides & hence, risk of arrhythmia increases w/ the rise of blood Ca conc.
