Indications/Uses
Management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in patients w/ an enlarged prostate to cause regression of the enlarged prostate & improves urinary flow & symptoms associated w/ BPH; reduces the incidence of acute urinary retention & need for surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) & prostatectomy. Male-pattern baldness (alopecia androgenetica) in men.
Dosage/Direction for Use
BPH Adult 5 mg daily. Alopecia Adult 1 mg daily for 3 mth or more.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Women who are or may potentially be pregnant. Childn.
Special Precautions
Monitor patients w/ large residual urine vol &/or severely diminished urinary flow for obstructive uropathy. Perform digital rectal exam & other prostate cancer evaluation prior to initiating therapy & periodically thereafter.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions; decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorders & reduced vol of ejaculate, breast tenderness & gynecomastia; testicular pain.
