Indications/Uses
Treatment & control of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Causes regression of enlarged prostate, improves urinary flow & symptoms associated w/ BPH. Prevention of urologic events to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention & the risk of surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) & prostatectomy.

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy. Women & childn.
Special Precautions
Carefully monitor patients w/ large residual urine vol &/or severely diminished urinary flow for obstructive uropathy. Initial & periodic digital rectal exams as well as other evaluations for prostate cancer are recommended prior to initiating therapy. Decrease in PSA levels by approx 50% in patients w/ BPH; consider decrease in serum PSA levels when evaluating PSA data & does not rule out concomitant prostate cancer.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions eg, pruritus, urticaria & angioedema (including swelling of lips, tongue, throat & face); depression, decreased libido; sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction & ejaculation disorders), testicular pain, hematospermia, male infertility &/or poor seminal quality. Breast enlargement & tenderness; rash; impotence; decreased vol of ejaculate. Breast cancer.
