Contents
Per 0.5 mL Attenuated Schwarz measles NLT 103 CCID50, RIT 4385 mumps (derived from Jeryl Lynn strain) NLT 103.7 CCID50 & Wistar RA 27/3 rubella strains of viruses NLT 103 CCID50
Indications/Uses
Active immunization against measles, mumps & rubella.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC/IM Single 0.5 mL dose (deltoid region or in anterolateral area of the thigh). Patient w/ bleeding disorders (eg, thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder) Administer subcutaneously.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity (systemic) to neomycin, egg, or after previous administration of measles, mumps &/or rubella vaccines. Severe humoral or cellular (primary or acquired) immunodeficiency eg, symptomatic HIV infection. Pregnancy (avoid for 1 mth after vaccination).
Special Precautions
Postpone vaccination in patients w/ acute severe febrile illness. Syncope (fainting) can occur. Allow evaporation of alcohol & other disinfecting agents from the skin before inj. Limited protection up to 72 hr after exposure to natural measles. Rare anaphylactic event; patients who have experienced anaphylaxis after egg ingestion. History or family history of allergic diseases or convulsions; anaphylactic, anaphylactoid, or other immediate reactions. Thrombocytopenia; immunocompromised patients. Do not administer intravascularly. Do not perform tuberculin testing w/in 4-6 wk after vaccination. Delay vaccination at least 3 mth in patients who have received human γ-globulins or blood transfusion. Booster dose in subjects who have previously been vaccinated w/ another measles, mumps & rubella combined vaccine. Avoid pregnancy 1 mth after vaccination. Lactation. Infants <12 mth (may not respond sufficiently to the measles component; should not preclude use of the vaccine). Revaccination at or after 12 mth should be considered.
Adverse Reactions
Redness at inj site, fever ≥38°C (rectal) or ≥37.5°C (axillary/oral). URTI; rash; pain & swelling at inj site, fever >39.5°C (rectal) or >39°C (axillary/oral).
Drug Interactions
Other live attenuated vaccines (1 mth apart), human γ-globulins or blood transfusion (at least 3 mth apart).
