Indications/Uses
Plasma vol replacement & colloid osmotic pressure restoration; in conditions eg, burns, severe acute albumin loss & acute hypovolemic shock. Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia associated w/ hemolytic disease or the newborn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult Initially 100 mL. Childn ¼-½ adult dose or 1-3 mL/kg. Infant w/ hemolytic disease of the newborn 1 g/kg before or during binding the exchange bilirubin. Patient in shock w/ greatly reduced blood vol Administer as rapidly as necessary, may be repeated in 15-30 min. Patient w/ a slightly low or normal blood vol 1 mL/min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe anemia or cardiac failure in the presence of normal or increased intravascular vol.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ low cardiac reserve. Avoid rapid infusion. Monitor for signs of increased venous pressure. Injured or post-op patients; patients w/ marked dehydration. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Fever & chills, urticaria, rash, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, hypotension.
