NaCl 520 mg, KCl 300 mg, trisodium citrate dihydrate 580 mg, anhydrous glucose 2.7 g
Indications/Uses
Replacement of electrolytes & fluids in patients w/ dehydration particularly that associated w/ acute diarrhea of various etiologies.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 200-400 mL for every loose motion, childn 200 mL for every loose motion, infant 1-1.5 times the usual feed vol.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Reconstitute 1 sachet w/ lukewarm water (200 mL), stir until completely dissolved.
Special Precautions
ORS should be reconstituted only by water. The soln should not be boiled after it is prepared. Other ingredients eg, sugar should not be added. Unused soln should be stored in a refrigerator & discarded w/in 24 hr of prep. Patients w/ GI obstruction, oliguric or anuric renal failure; severe dehydration or intractable vomiting.
Adverse Reactions
Vomiting (if given too quickly). Hypernatraemia & hyperkalaemia.
