Diphtheria toxoid ≥30 IU; tetanus toxoid ≥40 IU; Bordetella pertussis antigens: Pertussis toxoid 25 mcg, filamentous haemagglutinin 25 mcg; inactivated poliovirus: Type 1 (Mahoney) 40 D-antigen units, type 2 (MEF-1) 8 D-antigen units, type 3 (Saukett) 32 D-antigen units; H. influenzae type b polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate) 10 mcg, conjugated to tetanus protein 18-30 mcg
Indications/Uses
Protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis & against invasive infections due to H. influenzae type b (eg, meningitis, blood poisoning) in childn ≥2 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM 2 inj w/ an interval of 2 mth, 1 at the age of 2 mth & 1 at the age of 4 mth followed by a booster inj at the age of 11 mth, or, 3 inj at an interval of 1-2 mth from the age of 2 mth, followed by a booster inj w/in the 2nd yr of life.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to glutaraldehyde, neomycin, streptomycin or polymyxin B, to a pertussis vaccine (acellular or whole cell). Allergic reaction after a previous inj of vaccine. Childn w/ evolving encephalopathy, or encephalopathy w/in 7 days of a previous dose of pertussis vaccine. Postpone vaccination in case of febrile or acute disease.
Special Precautions
Blood disorders eg, thrombocytopenia or clotting disorders. Presented w/ febrile convulsion. Fever ≥40°C, collapse or shock-like state w/ hypotonic-hyporesponsive episode, persistent, inconsolable crying lasting ≥3 hr w/in 48 hr vaccination, convulsions (w/ or w/o fever) w/in 3 days of vaccination. Guillain-Barre syndrome or brachial neuritis. Concomitant use w/ corticosteroids, cytotoxic drugs, radiotherapy or other drugs that may weaken the immune system.
Adverse Reactions
Loss of appetite; nervousness, irritability, abnormal crying; somnolence; vomiting; erythema, fever ≥38°C, edema, inj site pain. Diarrhea; induration; insomnia, sleep disorder.
