Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of moderate pain particularly following surgery & fever. Analgesic or antipyretic especially in the elderly & in patients whom salicylates or other NSAIDs are contraindicated including asthmatics, w/ history of peptic ulcer & childn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion Patient >50 kg 1 g every 4 or more hr as single dose to a max of 4 g daily, 33-50 kg 15 mg/kg every 4 or more hr to a max of 60 mg/kg or 3 g daily, 10-33 kg 15 mg/kg or 2 daily as single dose. Administer as 15 min IV infusion.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment. Not to be given to neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Skin eruption, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, methemoglobinemia leading to cyanosis, renal damage (long-term).
Drug Interactions
May enhance the activity of coumarin anticoagulants.
