Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
GERD, PUD; prophylaxis for NSAID-associated ulceration; Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
GERD 20-40 mg once daily for 4 wk, may be increased to 8 wk if necessary. Maintenance: 20-40 mg daily. Alternatively, 20 mg daily for recurring symptoms. PUD 40 mg once daily for 2-4 wk (for duodenal ulceration) or 4-8 wk (for benign gastric ulceration). Eradication of H. pylori 1 wk triple therapy regimen: 40 mg combined w/ clarithromycin 500 mg bid & amoxicillin 1 g bid or clarithromycin 250 mg bid & metronidazole 400 mg bid. Prophylaxis for NSAID-associated ulceration 20 mg daily. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 80 mg daily. Max: 240 mg daily. Daily dose >80 mg should be given in 2 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before meals. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Special Precautions
Severe hepatic impairment. Monitor liver function regularly. Discontinue if liver enzymes are elevated.
