Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Peptic ulcer; moderate & severe GERD. Combination therapy w/ suitable antibiotics for H. pylori eradication in patients w/ gastric ulcers, to reduce the recurrence rate of duodenal & gastric ulcers. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Peptic ulcer & GERD 40 mg once daily. Benign gastric ulceration 40 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 80 mg once daily. H. pylori infection 40 mg bid w/ clarithromycin, amoxicillin or metronidazole.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Moderately severe hepatic or renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Not indicated for mild GI complaints eg, nervous dyspepsia, liver disease. Gastric ulcer malignancy or malignant disease of the esophagus should not be excluded prior to treatment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption of drugs w/ pH-dependent bioavailability (eg, ketoconazole). Interference w/ antiretroviral therapy, anticoagulants, clopidogrel, MTX.
