Indications/Uses
Radiocontrast medium used for myelography, cardioangiography, arteriography, urography, phlebography & CT enhancement.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Urography Adult 300 mg iodine/mL (I/mL) or 350 mg I/mL, vol: 40-80 mL. Childn >7 kg 240 mg I/mL, vol: 2-3 mL/kg, <7 kg 240 mg I/mL or 300 mg I/mL, vol: 3-4 mL/kg. Phlebography (leg) 200-300 mg I/mL, vol: 20-100 mL/leg. Digital subtraction angiography 300-350 mg I/mL, vol: 20-60 mL/inj. CT enhancement Adult 140-350 mg I/mL, vol: 100-400 mL, total amount of iodine: 30-60 g. Childn 240 mg I/mL, vol: 2-3 mL/kg up to 40 mL or 300 mg I/mL, vol: 1-3 mL/kg up to 40 mL. Intraarterial Arch aortography 300 mg I/mL, vol: 30-40 mL/inj. Selective cerebral femoral aortography 300-350 mg I/mL, vol: 5-60 mL/inj. Adult Left ventricle & aortic root cardioangiography 350 mg I/mL, vol: 30-60 mL/inj. Childn Selective coronary arteriography 300-350 mg I/mL, vol: 4-8 mL/inj depending on age, wt & pathology (max: 8 mL/kg). Digital subtraction angiography 140-300 mg I/mL, vol: 1-15 mL/inj. Intrathecal Lumbar & thoracic myelography 180-200 mg I/mL, vol: 10-15 mL or 240 mg I/mL, vol 8-12 mL. Cervical myelography 240 mg I/mL, vol: 10-12 mL or 300 mg I/mL, vol: 7-10 mL. CT cisternography 180-200 mg I/mL, vol: 5-15 mL or 240 mg I/mL, vol: 4-12 mL. Ped myelography >6 yr 180 mg I/mL, vol: 6-12 mL, 2-6 yr 180 mg I/mL, vol: 4-8 mL, <2 yr 180 mg I/mL, vol: 2-6 mL.
Contraindications
History of serious reaction to iohexol. Thyrotoxicosis.
Special Precautions
History of allergy, asthma or untoward reactions to contrast media; may provoke anaphylactoid reactions or other manifestations of hypersensitivity. Adequate hydration should be assured before & after contrast media administration. Patients w/ serious cardiac disease & pulmonary HTN; acute cerebral pathology; increased risk for seizures & neurological reactions in alcoholics & drug addicts; temporary hearing loss. Renal & hepatic impairment, DM; paraproteinemias (myelomatosis & Waldenström's macroglobulinemia). Potential risk of transient hepatic dysfunction; may aggravate symptoms of myasthenia gravis; phaeochromocytoma; hyperthyroidism. Driving or use of machines during the 1st 24 hr following intrathecal exam is not advisable. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant & neonates <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Feeling of warmth, metallic taste; anaphylactoid reactions; headache, fever; HTN.
