Management of hyperthyroidism; treatment of Grave's disease; prep of hyperthyroid patients for thyroidectomy. Adjunct to radio-iodine therapy & treatment of thyroid storm.
Mouth ulcers, sore throat, fever, bruising & malaise may occur. Perform full blood count. Discontinue treatment if neutropenia & liver damage occurs. Excessive dose may cause hypothyroidism & goiter. May cause fetal harm when administered in the 1sttrimester of pregnancy. Congenital defects following maternal use. Monitor neonatal development & thyroid function closely in infants during lactation. Scalp defects, esophageal atresia & tracheoesophageal fistula in exposed infants.
