Ropivacaine HCl
Indications/Uses
Epidural block for surgical anesth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Adult & childn >12 yr 150-200 mg (15-20 mL) for 10-20 min 4-6 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to local anesth of the amide type. Caesarean section; epidural administration. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Do not use for intra-articular continuous infusion. Poor general condition due to aging or compromised factors; patients treated w/ anti-arrhythmic drugs class III (eg, amiodarone). Cardiac arrest (rare) reported. Severe liver disease. May lead to hypotension & bradycardia. Avoid prolonged use. Administer to patients w/ acute porphyria. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, nausea; paraesthesia, dizziness, headache, bradycardia, tachycardia, HTN, vomiting, urinary retention, temp elevation, rigors, back pain.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ other or related amide-type local anesth eg, certain arrhythmics (eg, lidocaine & mexiletine). Increased plasma conc w/ strong inhibitors of CYP1A2 eg, fluvoxamine & enoxacin.
