Tropicamide 5 mg/mL
Indications/Uses
Diagnostic procedures for mydriasis & cycloplegia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Exam of fundus Instill 1-2 drops 15-20 min prior to exam.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Known or suspected angle-closure glaucoma.
Special Precautions
For ophth use only. May cause increased IOP. Consider the possibility of undiagnosed glaucoma in some patients eg, elderly. Determine IOP & estimate depth of the angle of the anterior chamber prior to initiation of therapy. Tropicamide-induced psychotic reactions & behavioral disturbances in patients w/ increased susceptibility to anticholinergic drugs. Benzalkonium Cl content may cause eye irritation & discolour soft contact lenses. Remove contact lenses prior to the application & wait at least 15 min before reinsertion. Avoid contact w/ soft contact lenses. May cause CNS disturbances in infants & childn. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Not recommended during pregnancy. Lactation. Infants, small or premature childn, or childn w/ Down's syndrome, spastic paralysis or brain damage.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache; blurred vision, photophobia, eye pain & irritation, ocular hyperaemia; syncope, hypotension; nausea; rash; prolonged drug effect.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effects w/ drugs w/ antimuscarinic properties eg, amantadine, antihistamines, phenothiazine, antipsychotics & TCAs.
