Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic in resp disorders associated w/ productive cough. Management of paracetamol overdosage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 600 mg daily or 200 mg bid or tid. Childn 100 mg bid or qid according to age.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve contents of sachet in a glass of water & drink immediately or utilize soln w/in 1 hr. To achieve ½ dose, divide the powd inside the sachet then mix w/ water. Store the remaining powd inside the sachet in a cool dry place & use w/in 12 hr.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if encephalopathy due to hepatic failure becomes evident. Generalized urticaria may be observed (rarely).
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions including bronchospasm, angioedema, rashes & pruritus; hypotension or occasionally HTN.
