Telmisartan
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 40 mg once daily. Max: 80 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction. Pregnancy. Not recommended during lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache & dose-related orthostatic hypotension. Impaired renal function, & rarely, rash, urticaria, pruritus, angioedema & raised liver enzyme values. Hyperkalaemia, myalgia & arthralgia. Resp tract disorders, back pain, GI disturbances, fatigue, neutropenia. Rhabdomyolysis.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensive effects may be potentiated by drugs or other agents that lower BP. Additive hyperkalaemic effect w/ K supplements, K-sparing diuretics or other drugs that can cause hyperkalaemia. Increased risk of renal impairment w/ NSAIDs. May increase serum conc of digoxin. Concomitant use w/ other AIIA metabolized by cytochrome P450 isoenzymes.
