Metronidazole
Indications/Uses
Inflammatory papules, pustules & erythema of rosacea & acne vulgaris. Any cutaneous ulceration, foot ulcers associated w/ DM, varicose veins, leprosy, arterial insufficiency & for episiotomy wounds.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply & rub a thin film of gel bid (morning & evening) to entire affected areas after washing.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
For external use only. Avoid contact w/ the eyes. Discontinue or use medication less often if local skin irritation occurs. Patient's w/ evidence of, or history of, blood dyscrasia. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances especially nausea & unpleasant metallic taste. Vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation; furred tongue, glossitis & stomatitis may be associated w/ an overgrowth of Candida; weakness, dizziness, ataxia, headache, drowsiness, insomnia, changes in mood or mental state eg, depression or confusion; peripheral neuropathy (high doses or prolonged treatment); temporary moderate leucopenia & thrombocytopenia; urethral discomfort & darkening of the urine.
Drug Interactions
Potentiate the anticoagulant effect of coumarin & warfarin.
