Indications/Uses
Bronchial asthma, pulmonary disease w/ spastic bronchial component & COPD.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 400 mg bid or tid. Elderly 200 mg bid or tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute MI, hypotension. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ HTN, heart disease, hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, chrome right ventricular failure, CHF, liver & renal disease, history of peptic ulcer. t½ may be prolonged in patients w/ chronic obstructive lung disease, concomitant infections or in concomitant use w/ certain other drugs (erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin & other antibiotics of the same group, allopurinol, cimetidine, propranolol & anti-flu vaccine). Clearance may be increased w/ phenytoin, other anticonvulsants & smoking. Lab monitoring of plasma conc in all situations. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, headache, cephalalgia, irritability, insomnia, tachycardia, extrasystole, tachypnea.
Drug Interactions
Not to be administered w/ other xanthine derivatives. Toxic synergism w/ ephedrine. Hepatic clearance may be decreased w/ erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, ranitidine, propranolol & anti-flu vaccine.
