Ursodeoxycholic acid
Indications/Uses
Alcoholic liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), hepatitis (viral drug-induced), intra hepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholengitis, liver disease in cystic fibrosis, gallstone dissolution & prevention.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Allergy to bile acids. Calcified cholesterol stones, radiopaque stones or radiolucent bile pigment stones, chronic liver disease.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting & other GI disturbances. Pruritus; headache, insomnia, bronchitis, upper resp tract infection, arthralgia, myalgia.
Drug Interactions
Effectiveness counteracted by Al-based antacids, cholestyramine, colestipol, clofibrate, estrogen, OCs & other lipid-lowering drugs.
