Amlodipine besilate
Indications/Uses
Management of HTN & prophylaxis of angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 5 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg once daily. Chronic stable or vasospastic angina 5-10 mg. Small, fragile individual, elderly or patient w/ hepatic insufficiency Initially 2.5 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, significant aortic stenosis, obesity.
Special Precautions
Hypotension, poor cardiac reserve, heart failure, recent MI, severe aortic stenosis, hepatic impairment. Not used to treat anginal attack in chronic stable angina. Discontinue treatment if ischemic pain occurs. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, taste, visual & urinary disturbances; palpitations, flushing, edema, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, fatigue, dry mouth, hypotension, syncope, chest pain, dyspnea, mood changes, tremor, paresthesia, impotence, gynecomastia, wt change, myalgia, pruritus, rashes (including erythema multiforme), alopecia, purpura, pancreatitis, jaundice, cholestasis, gingival hyperplasia, MI, arrhythmia, vasculitis, hyperglycemia, thrombocytopenia, angioedema & urticaria.
Drug Interactions
β-blockers, insulin & antidiabetic drugs.
