Esflurbiprofen
Indications/Uses
Relief of pain & inflammation associated w/ OA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Apply in affected area once daily. Max daily dose: 2 patches.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to esflurbiprofen or flurbiprofen. Patients w/ peptic ulcer; severe blood abnormality, severe cardiac dysfunction, & HTN. Patients w/ current or previous aspirin-induced asthma. Patients on enoxacin hydrate, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin or prulifloxacin. Severe liver & renal disorder. Late pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Periodic lab tests should be performed for long-term use. Elderly w/ high fever or patients w/ wasting disease. Do not co-administer w/ enoxacin hydrate, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin or prulifloxacin. Avoid use w/ other new quinolone antibiotics. Interruption or discontinuation of the drug if cutaneous symptoms are observed. Patients w/ peptic ulcer-induced by long-term use of NSAID who need long term use of esflurbiprofen & those being treated w/ agents eg, misoprostol, history of peptic ulcer, current or previous blood abnormality, bleeding tendency, current or previous liver/renal disorder or reduced renal blood flow, abnormal cardiac function, HTN, bronchial asthma, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease. Temporary infertility in women (long-term use). Pregnancy. Avoid during lactation. Low birth wt babies, neonates, nursing infants & childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dermatitis, erythema, pruritus, eczema, rash; increased blood urea. Shock, anaphylaxis; acute kidney injury, nephrotic syndrome; GI bleeding; aplastic anemia; induced asthma attacks; TEN, SJS, exfoliative dermatitis; impaired consciousness, convulsions w/ impaired consciousness.
Drug Interactions
May induce convulsions due to enhanced GABA inhibition w/ enoxacin hydrate, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin, prulifloxacin. Possible increase effect of warfarin. Increased effect of MTX. Increased lithium blood levels. Decreased effects of thiazides (eg, hydrochlorothiazide) & loop diuretics (eg, furosemide). May increase GI reactions w/ methylprednisolone. May increase blood levels w/ CYP2C9 inhibitors (eg, fluconazole).
