Indications/Uses
Improvement of hypoalbuminemia in patients w/ decompensated hepatic cirrhosis presenting w/ hypoalbuminemia despite adequate dietary intake.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ liqd, do not dissolve on water or other fluids.
Contraindications
Congenital branched-chain amino acid metabolic abnormality. Maple syrup urine disease.
Special Precautions
Do not administer to patients w/ markedly advanced hepatic cirrhosis including those w/ stage III or more in the severity of coma due to hepatic encephalopathy; >3 mg/dL total bilirubin level; markedly depressed hepatic function for protein synthesis. Restricted protein diet. Long-term use. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal distension, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite, thirst, queasy, eructation; increased BUN & abdominal pain & discomfort, itching, vomiting. Anorexia, heartburn; increased serum creatinine, blood ammonia, AST (GOT), ALT (GPT), total bilirubin; rash, pruritus; malaise, oedema (facial, lower leg), redness, hot flush.
