Indications/Uses
Constipation. Treatment of hepatic encephalopathy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Constipation Adult Initially 15-30 mL as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Childn 5-10 yr 10 mL bid, ≤1-5 yr 5 mL bid. Hepatic encephalopathy 30-50 mL tid, subsequently adjusted to produce 2-3 soft stools daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Low galactose diet & intestinal obstruction.
Special Precautions
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal discomfort associated w/ flatulence or cramps. Prolonged use or large doses may result in diarrhea w/ excessive loss of water & electrolytes.
