Ketorolac tromethamine
Indications/Uses
Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-op pain following surgical procedures associated w/ low risk of hemorrhage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial dose: 30 mg followed by 10-30 mg 4-6 hrly as needed. Patient <50 kg, >65 yr, w/ reduced renal function Lower initial dose. Initial post-op 2 hrly. Max total daily dose: 120 mg/day.
Contraindications
GI bleeding or perforation. Peptic ulceration, ulceration colitis or other ulcerative GI disease. Cerebrovascular bleeding or hemophilia including coagulations or platelet function disorders. Aspirin-induced nasal polyps. Severe renal function impairment; history of asthma; hypovolemia or dehydration. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Close monitoring of urine, urea & creatinine w/ impaired renal function. Glomerular & interstitial nephritis, renal papilliary necrosis, nephrotic syndrome & acute renal failure. Patients w/ cardiac decomposition, HTN. May prolong bleeding time. Impaired hepatic functions; obstet analgesia. Childn, elderly & debilitated individuals.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, dyspepsia, GI pain; drowsiness.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, methotrexate, other NSAIDs; lithium & furosemide.
