Carvedilol
Indications/Uses
Management of HTN, angina pectoris & heart failure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 12.5 mg once daily, increased after 2 days to 25 mg once daily. Alternatively, an initial dose of 6.25 mg bid, increased after 1-2 wk to 12.5 mg once daily. May be further increased at intervals of at least 2 wk to 50 mg once daily or in divided doses. Elderly 12.5 mg once daily. Angina pectoris Initially 12.5 mg bid, increased after 2 days to 25 mg bid. Heart failure 3.125 mg bid for 2 wk, may be increased to 6.25 mg bid. Patient weighing >85 kg Max: 50 mg bid, <85 kg Max: 25 mg bid.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Hepatic dysfunction; acute renal failure & renal abnormalities in patients w/ heart failure who also suffers from diffuse vascular disease &/or renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, pruritus, reversible alopecia; lupus-like syndrome, male impotence, sclerosing peritonitis, & retroperitoneal fibrosis.
