Terazosin HCl
Indications/Uses
HTN (alone or in combination w/ other antihypertensives). Relieve the signs & symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (as single therapy).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 1 mg at bedtime, increase slowly to achieve the desired response. HTN 1-5 mg once daily. Max: 20 mg/day. BPH 5-10 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ history of micturition syncope. Marked lowering of BP & syncope w/ 1st few doses of therapy. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) during cataract surgery. Small but statistically significant decreased in hematocrit, Hb, WBC, total protein & albumin. Concomitant use of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, somnolence, asthenia, nasal congestion. HTN: Blurred vision, nausea, peripheral edema, palpitations. BPH: Headache, postural hypotension, impotence.
Drug Interactions
Possible significant hypotension w/ other antihypertensives (eg, Ca antagonists), PDE-5 inhibitors. Greater appearance of dizziness & other dizziness-related AR w/ ACE inhibitors & diuretics.
