Tropisetron HCl
Indications/Uses
Prevention of nausea & vomiting induced by cytotoxic therapy; treatment & prevention of post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prophylaxis of nausea & vomiting associated w/ cytotoxic chemotherapy Single dose of 5 mg IV prior to chemotherapy, then oral doses of tropisetron 5 mg at least 1 hr before food for 5 days. Treatment of post-op nausea & vomiting 2 mg by slow IV inj or by infusion over 15 min, w/in 2 hr of the end of anesth. Prophylaxis of post-op nausea & vomiting 2 mg IV prior to induction of anesth.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ HTN. Pregnancy & lactation. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, headache, dizziness, fatigue, GI disorders, collapse, syncope or CV arrest, hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Liver enzyme inducers eg, rifampicin, phenobarb. Drugs that prolong the QT interval. Antiarrhythmics, β-adrenergic blockers.
