Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Cap: Treatment & prophylaxis of hemorrhage associated w/ excessive fibrinolysis. Prophylaxis of hereditary angioedema. Inj: Treatment & prophylaxis of hemorrhage associated w/ general & local fibrinolysis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap 1-1.5 g bid-qid. Hereditary angioedema 1-1.5 g bid-tid. Inj 0.5-1 g (or 10-15 mg/kg) by slow IV inj tid or as continuous infusion at a rate of 25-50 mg/kg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Cap: Active intravascular clotting.
Special Precautions
Cap: Patients w/ a predisposition to thrombosis, hemorrhage due to disseminated intravascular coagulation. Inj: Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ thrombolism (cerebral thrombosis, MI, thrombophlebitis) or at risk of thromboembolic disease; marantic coagulopathy. Avoid rapid IV inj.
Adverse Reactions
Cap: GI disturbances, hypotension. Inj: Hypersensitivity. Rarely, pruritus or eruption, disturbance of color vision, shock, drowsiness & headache.
Drug Interactions
Inj: May increase the potential for thrombus formation w/ hemocoagulase. Reserpine, methyl & ethyl testosterone, lipid & tissue thromboplastin, sulfadimethoxine.
