Itopride HCl
Indications/Uses
GI symptoms caused by gastric dysmotility & delayed gastric emptying eg, sensation of bloating, early satiety, postprandial fullness, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, anorexia, heartburn, nausea & vomiting; functional (non-ulcer) dyspepsia or chronic gastritis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. GI hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation.
Special Precautions
Enhances the action of acetylcholine & may produce cholinergic effects. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhea. Leukopenia & thrombocytopenia; anaphylactoid reaction; increased blood prolactin; dizziness, headache & tremor; constipation, increased saliva & nausea; jaundice; rash, erythema & pruritus; gynecomastia; increased AST, ALT, γ-GTP, alkaline phosphatase & bilirubin.
Drug Interactions
Metabolic interactions are not expected since itopride is primarily metabolized by flavine monooxygenase & not by CYP450. May influence the absorption of concomitantly orally administered drugs. Particular caution should be taken w/ a narrow therapeutic index, SR or EC formulations. Reduced action w/ anticholinergics.
