Cream Fusidic acid. Oint Na fusidate
Indications/Uses
Cream: Skin infections caused by Staph aureus. Oint: Skin infections caused by Staph, Strep, Corynebacterium minutissimum & other organisms sensitive to Na fusidate. Impetigo, infected wounds, folliculitis, boils, sycosis barbae, carbuncles, hidradenitis, paronychia, erythrasma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cream Apply to the affected area of the skin tid-qid, but less often if the area is covered w/ a plaster or bandage. Discontinue if there is no improvement after 7 days. Oint Apply to the affected area bid-tid for a period of 7 days. Can be used w/ or w/o a covering dressing.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Avoid getting into the eyes. May increase risk of developing antibiotic resistance w/ extended or recurrent use. Avoid applying to the breast during breastfeeding. Oint: Contains cetyl alcohol, hydrous lanolin, & butylhydroxytoluene (E321).
Adverse Reactions
Cream: Non-serious skin problems. Rarely, allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, lips & mouth start to tingle or swell, swelling of the face or throat, skin rash). Oint: Skin reactions eg, pruritus & rash, application site conditions eg, pain & irritation; hypersensitivity & angioedema.
