Contents
Thiamine mononitrate (vit B1) 15 mg, riboflavin (vit B2) 10 mg, pyridoxine HCl (vit B6) 10 mg, cyanocobalamin (vit B12) 10 mcg, Fe sulfate heptahydrate 457.5 mg (equiv to elemental Fe 91.5 mg), folic acid 1 mg
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of Fe deficiency anemia & vit B-complex deficiency, prenatal hematinic.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Best taken between meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Patients w/ Fe-shortage or Fe-absorption diseases, hemoglobinopathies, GI diseases. Patients w/ Parkinson's disease taking levodopa should take supplements containing pyridoxine.
Special Precautions
Fe salts: Should not be given to patients receiving repeated blood transfusion or w/ anemias not produced by Fe deficiency. Do not co-administer w/ parenteral Fe. Pyridoxine: Severe peripheral neuropathies in long-term administration. Folic acid: Patients who may have folate-dependent tumors. Not a treatment of pernicious anemia & other megaloblastic anemias where vit B12 is deficient.
Adverse Reactions
Fe: GI irritation & abdominal pain w/ nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. Black-colored feces.
Drug Interactions
May diminish Fe absorption w/ tetracycline & antacids.
