Indications/Uses
Acute & chronic resp tract infections w/ abundant mucus secretions due to acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis & its exacerbations, pulmonary emphysema, mucoviscidosis & bronchiectasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Effervescent tab Adult 600 mg daily (preferably in the evening). Granules for oral soln Adult 200 mg bid-tid. Childn 100 mg bid-qid according to age. Duration or treatment: 5-10 days in acute phase. May be continued for several mth in chronic state. Inhalant Nebulize 1 amp once-bid for ≥5-10 days. IM inj 1 amp once-bid. Small childn ½ adult dose. IV Adult 1 amp bid up to 2-3 amp bid-tid. Childn 1-1½ amp bid-tid. It is recommended to dilute IV inj w/ 0.9% NaCl soln or a 5% glucose soln.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve effervescent tab or granules in a glass of water. Mix if necessary. Drink directly from the glass, or in case of childn, it may be given w/ a tsp or in a feeding bottle.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Childn <2 yr. Effervescent tab/Granules for oral soln Phenylketonurics.
Special Precautions
Asthmatic patients. Patients w/ history of peptic ulceration. Discontinue if bronchospasm occurs in patients w/ bronchial asthma. Caution in patients w/ histamine intolerance during long-term treatment. Do not mix w/ other medication. May interfere in colorimetric assay method for salicylate measurement & urine ketone test. Pregnancy & lactation. Consider intake of Fluimucil effervescent tab on patients under controlled Na diet. Patients w/ rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take Fluimucil granules.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylactic shock, anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reaction, bronchospasm, angioedema, rash & pruritus. Inhalant Rhinitis, stomatitis.
Drug Interactions
Concurrent administration w/ antitussive drugs could lead to accumulation of bronchial secretion. Significant hypotension & enhanced temporal artery dilation w/ nitroglycerin. Concurrent use w/ carbamazepine may result in subtherapeutic carbamazepine levels. Possible inactivation of antibiotics. Reduced effects w/ activated charcoal.
