Fenofibrate
Indications/Uses
For type IIa, type IIb, type III, type IV & type V hyperlipoproteinemias.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 300 mg daily in divided doses. May be adjusted to 200 & 400 mg daily. Childn 5 mg/kg.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Photoallergy or phototoxic reaction during treatment w/ fenofibrate or ketoprofen. Pre-existing gallbladder disease. Chronic or acute pancreatitis w/ the exemption of acute pancreatitis due to severe hypertriglyceridemia. Severe renal dysfunction. Hepatic dysfunction including primary biliary cirrhosis & unexplained persistent liver function abnormality. Childn.
Special Precautions
Gallstones or gallbladder disorders. Hypoalbuminemic states as the nephritic syndrome. Primary biliary cirrhosis. Severe hepatic impairment. Used w/ caution in renal impairment. Pregnancy. Not to be used during breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal/back/chest pain, headache, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, anemia, leg cramps, dizziness, resp disorder, wt loss, GI disturbances, urinary frequency, conjunctivitis, skin disorder.
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants. Anti-diabetics (eg, tolbutamide & sulfonylurea). Phenytoin.
