Fenofibrate
Indications/Uses
Treatment of type IIa, IIb, III, IV, V hyperlipoproteinemias.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 cap daily, may be adjusted to 200-400 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Severe hepatic impairment, primary biliary cirrhosis, gallstones or gallbladder disorders, hypoalbuminemic states eg, nephrotic syndrome.
Special Precautions
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets eg, anorexia, nausea, gastric discomfort.
Drug Interactions
May enhance anticoagulant effect up to 50% of its potency. Tolbutamide & other sulfonylurea antidiabetics; phenytoin; furosemide (in patients w/ hypoalbuminemia) may be displaced from plasma proteins by fibrates.
