Mometasone furoate
Indications/Uses
Relief of inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses eg, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, & irritant &/or allergic contact dermatitis. May be applied to scalp lesions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cream/Oint Apply a thin film to the affected areas once daily. Lotion Apply a few drops to affected skin areas including scalp sites once daily; massage gently & thoroughly until the medication disappears.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use & appropriate therapy should be instituted if irritation develops. Systemic absorption can produce reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression w/ the potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency after w/drawal of treatment. Manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia & glucosuria. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Visual disturbance may be reported w/ systemic or topical use. Pregnancy & lactation. Long-term use in infants & childn.
Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, application site reactions, bacterial infections, folliculitis, furunculosis, acneiform eruptions, signs of skin atrophy. Rarely burning, irritation, dryness, hypertrichosis, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of the skin, secondary infection, striae, miliaria.
