Isoxsuprine HCl
Indications/Uses
Treatment of premature labor, cerebral & peripheral vascular disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Vasodilator 10-20 mg tid-qid. Arresting premature labor Initially 200-500 mcg/min IV infusion. Once labor has been arrested, 10 mg every 3-8 hr IM. Prophylaxis 30-90 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals, milk or antacids to minimize GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Preexisting hypotension, prolonged premature rupture of membranes, hemorrhage.
Special Precautions
Should not be given immediately post-partum, nor should it be used for premature labor if there is infection. Risk of pulmonary edema in women being treated for premature labor.
Adverse Reactions
Transient nausea, vomiting, flushing, tachycardia, rashes, GI disturbances & maternal pulmonary edema.
