Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult HTN Initially 50 mg daily. May increase dose to a max of 100 mg/day in divided doses. Angina pectoris Initially 50 mg daily. Max: 100 mg/day in divided doses. Cardiac dysrhythmias Following IV atenolol in the acute phase, give an oral maintenance dose of 50-100 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Asthma, heart failure, 2nd- or 3rd-degree heart block, cardiogenic shock.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, fatigue, sleep disturbances, bradycardia, bronchospasm, peripheral vasoconstriction.
